The parts are played AB (Cole) or AAB (Athole,<br> Fraser, Hunter, Martin).<br> The tune is also used for a song. Captain Simon Fraser writes<br> "The words and music of the "Banks of Loch Ness" are the composition<br> of a very obscure individual, whom the editor remembers and are descriptive of<br> the natural beauties which adorn that part of the country, forming a very<br> interesting subject for the genuine poet or landscape painter".<br> It was printed in Cole's 1000 Fiddle Tunes (1940),<br> Fraser's The Airs and Melodies Peculiar to the Highlands of Scotland and the Isles (1874),<br> Hunter's Fiddle Music of Scotland (1988),<br> Laybourn's Köhlers’ Violin Repository Part Third (1885),<br> Manson's Hamilton's Universal Tune Book, vol. 2 (1853),<br> Martin's Ceol na Fidhle, vol. 4 (1991),<br> Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) and<br> Stewart-Robertson's The Athole Collection (1884).<br>
